Agenda

Create a fun immersive experience for children to learn about intangible heritage

Sam Tung Uk museum is a restored Hakka village in Hong Kong’s northern New Territories where visitors can view the traditional way of life in Hong Kong before the city became a trading hub. To celebrate the opening of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office at the museum, they asked us to create an experience for visitors to learn more about Hong Kong’s local foods, festivals, and traditions in a playful way.

“A great way to make history come alive. Such a fun afternoon for the whole family.”

- Fok Family

We designed a family treasure hunt where participants had to navigate their way around the village to find eight checkpoints. At each checkpoint teams were challenged to solve clues and play games like tasting herbal tea, mimicking moves in a Fire Dragon Dance and guessing the hidden meaning of symbols in the Yu Lan Ghost Festival. Each correctly executed task yielded a letter and the eight letters together formed a secret code, with which teams could collect their special souvenir.

400 families took part in the scavenger hunt, an educational and fun-filled immersive activity.
